The First Outreach

Our first MA group has gone on their way and now I am back at the base. The week of outreach was awesome. There was a ton of spiritual warfare, nightmares, sleeplessness, and more. Things went great during the days though. We stayed at a house in the town of Lame Deer. It was a nice house with two small bed room down stairs and a large room upstairs. Two student and I slept in the smallest room, a few girls slept in the other room and a few in the living room. The boys all crammed upstair. Twenty-four people, I believe it was, and the house was not that big at all. The real issue with housing was the one bathroom. We had shower schedules in the afternoon and a long line of people sitting ion the stairs in the morning. Some even went outside and used the out house that was falling over and according to our host there not worth staining since it would probably fall before winter.

Our first day there we spent some time at a Mennonite camp just outside Lame Deer where we hung out with the kids and had a service by hte campfire. Monday we all worked on the house we were staying at. We trimmed bushes, stained the barn and fence, picked up trash, and played with the kids at the boys and girls club across the street. The next three days we were split up into groups and went to different houses in town to clear brush, mow, pick up trash, etc. The house I went to was most memorable for the huge pile of soda cans rotting in the side yard. The more we dug up the worse the smell. I believe we filled around five massive garbage bags with the cans. I much preferred cutting brush and breaking off dead limbs. Thankfully we didn ot have any encounters with snakes or other scary things.

In the evening we had worship time and debriefed the day. Each night one of the MA staff would share a testimony. The first night we actually went on a prayer walk around town but instead of just walking and praying we stopped at houses and would ask if they wanted prayer for anything and then would pray with them. it was pretty cool. Yesterday morning we sent the team on their way back to Michigan. It has been great to have some space again but sad because we really bonded with them.

So this next week we will have our next team coming in. Ahhhh. we do have the weekend to rest and have some fun so hopefully we will be ready to go by the time they come.

In other news, one of my roommates brought a puppy back from the Rez and it is living in our room. While we were gone Beauty had a cute little filly and the goat had two kids.
